Seasons come, and seasons go, but sustainable fashion allows us to get the most out of our wardrobe. I share four ‘tips’ that I draw from experience to maintain a sustainable wardrobe.
- Wear fabrics that allow your skin to breathe—100 % cotton, linen, etc. I enjoy cotton clothes since I live in Chennai, which is hot all year round. My mother, who has lived in Delhi, believes in segregating her clothes according to the seasons, especially summer and winter.
- Buy the basics – solid colors, blacks, whites, beiges – this will enable you to mix and match. You can team up floral kurtas with white salwars. Avoid skin-tight pants if you are overweight.
- Be choosy – Buy only those clothes that “spark joy.” As Marie Kondo says, it is good to surround yourself with the things you love. ( paraphrased)
- Wear suitable clothes for spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Each season demands a distinct set of clothes. Be a woman for all seasons!

Wearing airy clothes is one habit that I follow irrespective of season. I go to the extent of ditching the fashion parade for breathable clothes
Hi Geethica, It took me years to realize that I would never wear all those branded clothes made of synthetic material. For the past few years, I’ve only been wearing cotton.
