Sucker Punch – Essays by Scaachi Koul

Blurb from Amazon

Sucker Punch is about what happens when the life you thought you’d be living radically changes course, everything you thought you knew about the world and yourself has tilted on its axis, and you have to start forging a new path forward. Scaachi employs her signature humour and fierce intelligence to interrogate her previous belief that fighting is the most effective tool for progress. She examines the fights she’s had with her parents, her ex-husband, her friends, online strangers, and herself all in an attempt to understand when a fight is worth having, and when it’s better to walk away.

My Views

I simply loved this book. There’s no two ways about it. Yes, I found some of the things the author wrote about a bit strange, like the time she kept in touch with her rapist for another ten years and kept that bit of information from her husband, but whether the author was writing about this, or her failing marriage, or her cheating husband, or her mother suffering from breast cancer, she lived her life on the page. Every thought of hers was up for public scrutiny on the Internet as she wrote this book. Every person in her life knew that they will appear in her writing. Her writing was often scathing, sarcastic, ironic, wry and bitterly funny. I found myself laughing out loud in places. I’m going to look for her other work that’s available for purchase.
