On Books, Writing, Editing, and More

I recently signed up for the Resilient Writers’ Workshop, and it’s the best self-care decision I’ve made. It came to me at the right time. The word ‘Resilient’ means a lot to me. My mom says the mentor resembles me. She has taken innumerable creative writing workshops and is based in the US, and I got the workshop for 37 USD. She is a lifelong learner. She also appreciates the iterative nature of editing. Her tip for dealing with our inner critic or editor is to say to ourselves – I’m learning and growing as a writer. She emphasises that writing is good for our brains. She, too, wants to live up to 95 and write up to 95. We always get opportunities to refine our draft as we go along. I learned about a new tool called Autocrit. TBH, I didn’t know a place called Chatsworth existed. She gave tips for writing great dialog.

During the workshop (which I attended for just a few minutes), I heard the phrase, “The thought needs to open up a crack of light.” Sublime. She also mentioned the feelings—numb, flat, tired, anxious—and “spiraling up rather than spiraling down.” She mentioned ‘Deep Point of View—third-person limited’ and had recently conducted a VIP workshop on reframing thoughts. For anxious writers, her advice is “Don’t become attached to your anxiety. ” She, too, likes showing up for herself because it’s fun!
