Of Kashmir, Robberies, and the 1980s

It was in 1984 that my parents and I went to Srinagar, Jammu and Pahalgaon. I was excited! We went on shikaras, stayed in the middle of Dal Lake, ate yummy food, of which Kashmiri pulao was my favorite, and took in the beauty of the place.

Our holiday lasted 10 days, but when we got back to our house in Anna Nagar, we were shocked to find that robbers had been there and had stolen our valuables.

I was crying because my new roller skates were stolen. I accompanied my dad to the Anna Nagar police station, and I sobbed about my roller skates. The Anna Nagar police came to our house and lifted fingerprints.

My dad made a list of the numerous other things that had been stolen. But the greatest miracle was that we got back most of our stuff from the police after 9 months. The robber had been greedy and stolen from a jewelry shop in T. Nagar. His fingerprints from the shop matched those from our house. The cops in T.Nagar found that the robber had buried a lot of stolen goods in a vacant lot on the way to Bangalore.

Kudos to the T. Nagar police for finding him.
