I’m thankful to Subir Adhicary Sir for arranging for a review copy of his latest book ‘My Sparrows Are Back’ from his publisher Saptarishi. The book has got endorsements from Aloke Lal, IPS; Former DGP; Uttarakhand; and best-selling author. Dr. Annurag Batra – Chairman BW Business World, author and angel investor has also endorsed it. Anirban Bhattacharyya, best-selling author of five books has shared his endorsement about the book, too.
Subir Adhicary is a civil engineering consultant by profession. He graduated from the University of Roorkie in 1973. He has written numerous columns for local newspapers and ‘My sparrows are back’ is his sixth book in six years.
I’m happy to read the pleasant slice-of-life stories from this book. The book has around 34 stories and 192 pages. The quality of the paper used in the book is exceptionally good, and I expect it to remain good for a long time to come.
The book is dedicated to Sir’s grandchildren. The first story Kulsum Aapa is about a girl from his past whom he met when he was a five-year-old boy. The story talks about the bond between him and Kulsum’s family, who was Muslim. It ends with the line ‘ Yes, Love transcends all barriers of religion, caste, customs and language.’
The second story from the title ‘The Sparrows Are Back’ reminds me of an article from The Hindu of long ago which discussed this topic.
The third story ‘Conscience Tailors’ was funny no doubt, but a bit hard to swallow. Within brackets, it says ‘inspired by a childhood story. ‘
The very fact that the stories are heartwarming, humourous and slice-of-life is a very welcome feature of the book. It is a wholesome book that can be read by all ages. These days, I notice that a lot of books contain disturbing content, even those that are sold as children’s books. At such a time, this book full of nice stories like from the Readers’ Digest times are to be encouraged for publication. I wish there were more such books.
