I’m grateful to have received a galley proof of Down in the Dark Deep, Where the Puddlers Dwell by Rebecca Cuthbert. Regular readers of my blog will remember I reviewed her Self-Made Monsters here. Down in the Dark Deep, Where the Puddlers Dwell is a 32-page graphic novel for children of all ages. I get terrified when I read scary thrillers or horror meant for adults. Kid Lit in the genre works perfectly for me. The book is illustrated by Dakota Markquardt.
The copy consists of about two rhyming lines on every page. The illustrations are gorgeous, particularly of the Raven on page 11. The puddlers, a couple of pages later, don’t look too scary or spooky, which is a good thing in KidLit. The green goo in their mouths does not look too disgusting. The overall colors used are dark, but not depressing. Here’s the pre-order link.

I didn’t know KidLit horror was a thing! Very interesting.
The illustrations are sure to enhance the experience of the kids and engage them in continuing with what proves to be a thrilling and rewarding experience.
@Anuradha – True. Illustrations make all the difference, especially in kid lit.
So lucky to have received a galley proof! The page you have shared does look interesting, am sure kids would have a spooky time.
Horror for kids is interesting. Would like to have a look.
Sounds like something I’d opt for too. I’m a scaredy cat and avoid horror reading specifically for this reason. Now you’ve not only given me a book recommendation but also a way out of how I can read more books in this genre without getting sleepless night
It take shonetsy and courage to admit that we are more comfortable reading child horror literature , I too find children’s world less dark and more hopeful.
I’m a big fan of graphic novels, and your review is positive. I’ll check this one out.
