I have only ever known two queer people who were open about their sexuality in the early 2000s. Both of them were emotionally intense people. At that time, I was looking for their queer quotient or how they were different. I did this because I did not know queer people before this. Since then, several years have passed, and I have worked with several talented queer people.

I accept people at face value and appreciate those people who treat me well. Some of the queer people I’ve known have been the kindest to me. Maybe they are kind since they know what it’s like to be persecuted.

I connect with the person as a human being rather than placing any emphasis on their sexuality or gender.
