I bought ‘Random Everything’ a long time ago and read it cover to cover. But here I am picking it up off my table and re-reading it. The poems bring me comfort and solace. Just as I had noted the first time I read this book, I especially like these poems: ‘The Firefighter’ and ‘Hedges as Boundaries’
I find the poet’s words relatable, and they ring true for me. The poem ‘Independent’ too is a beautiful reminder for some of us who feel younger than we are.
When I read ‘My Hydrangeas’, I know at once that I’m reading about more than flowers. ‘The Great Imitators’ is a perfect poem for the present times, full of social media fame.
In ‘Our Minds Are Not Our Friends,’ I see the wisdom in the last two lines, where she advises the reader to get a second opinion on what the mind tells us.
