Decluttering With Habuild

I attended a two-day workshop on decluttering with Habuild conducted by Smriti Bhatia recently. On day 1, I learned about the 4-box method. Whenever we start to declutter, it helps if we have four boxes next to us.

  1. Keep
  2. Donate/Sell
  3. Trash
  4. Maybe/Sentimental Value

Sorting out items into these four boxes helps us decide how to organize our stuff.

The facilitator mentioned that if we do not discard anything, we are only re-arranging our clutter.

On day 2, she spoke about digital decluttering.

  • PC clutter
  • Mobile Clutter

She advised us to set aside a day in the month for digital decluttering.

Even in our mailboxes, some of us hoard a lot of clutter. She reminded us to check that ‘unsubscribe’ button every now and then.

She reminded us to give ourselves permission to give away / re-gift items that are not to our taste.

She told us to do a local survey of NGOs in our area, so that we can donate to them.

With reference to pan-India NGOs she mentioned Goonj. https://goonj.org/

She mentioned https://shareatdoorstep.com/ which picks up items to donate from your doorstep for a small fee.

She also mentioned Chennai Closet Cleanse https://www.instagram.com/chennaiclosetcleanse/

and India Wasted https://www.instagram.com/indiawasted/ as thrift shops that conduct thrift sales.
