Aishwariya's LittLog

On Books, Writing, Editing, and More

This book is by Wonder House Books. Earlier, I had read their ‘World’s Greatest Scientists’ and loved it. I was happy to pick up ‘World’s Greatest Writers.’

The book takes us through the journeys of 27 writers and lets us know rare details about them. For instance, I did not know Agatha Christie was born in Torquay and died in Wallingford.

Her full name is Agatha Mary Clarissa Christie. Her dad is Frederic Alvah Miller, and her mom is Clarissa Boehmer Miller. Her father was a stockbroker, and her mom was a storyteller. Agatha taught herself to read by the age of five. Young Agatha’s poems were published in The Poetry Review. Her first story was The House of Beauty ( later the House of Dreams.) The story describes the world of madness and dreams. She used mysticism as a central element in most of her stories. She also wrote a novel called Snow upon the Desert.
