An editor says “no” and it feels like:
“I’m a bad writer.”
“I’ll never get published.”
“Why do I even bother?”
What they usually mean is:
– “We just ran something similar.”
– “It’s not right for this section.”
– “We’re not commissioning right now.”
– “I’m three espressos behind on my inbox and reading everything sideways.”
Rejection in freelance journalism is rarely about you.
It’s almost always about fit and timing.
Don’t internalize the no.
Keep pitching until you land your yes.
