What toxicity in the beauty industry looks like

I’ve been going to parlors since I was a teenager. Initially, I would go for basic services like threading of eyebrows etc. only. Once I started wearing mini skirts, it was important to wax my arms and legs, coz let’s face it we don’t like showing bodily hair. It just looks bad.

These girls who are hired to do services for you are sometimes not trained properly. They cannot afford the training. Beauty school costs money. These girls come from small villages here and there to the nearest city. They learn on -the-job. Who can blame them. No one is going to refuse a job and self-reject themselves.

Something must be done to ensure these girls get enough leave. I don’t want to mention the specific parlor where I experienced this, because every parlor is like this.

The girl wasn’t allowed to take leave even though she had severe bronchitis. She was coughing on the leg, face!!, hands etc. And sadly the customer was Moi. I was TERRFIED that I would catch it since I belong to a vulnerable subsect of the population. By God’s grace nothing happened.

Anyway, I thought I should highlight such practices so that this type of exploitation does not continue in parlors.
