June is cataract awareness month. My dad had his cataract surgery in one eye at a reputed eye hospital in March 2020. It turned out to be a harrowing time for us since I had to take him to an emergency hospital at 4 am in suburban Chennai. I was terrified due to the late hour and also worried because I had no idea what the problem was with dad’s surgery.
Four years later, all I have to say to people going in for a cataract surgery is – please go to a clinic where they will give you individualized attention, not to a so-called “reputed eye hospital” where you will be treated like a part of assembly-line surgeries.
What you eat before surgery, after surgery, your gastric health, possible allergic reactions – all need to be looked at carefully. My dad’s platelets fell drastically during his surgery. This is not a normal occurrence. For my mother’s cataract surgery earlier this year, my dad took her to a hospital, where they treated her as an in-patient and attended to her every need. It was a far more relaxing time for us and I even managed to work during the day she had her surgery done.
I have also found out since then that people get their cataracts removed even in their fifties, not only in their late 60s and 70s.

It’s nice to know that June is cataract awareness month. I had the cataracts removed from both eyes in February and March, this year and had it done by a skilled doctor. Thanking and praising God for the doctor and the success of the surgeries.
Yes, Ma’am! It’s a procedure that is made out to be far simpler than it actually is. I’m happy to hear your experience was smooth.
